The popular on-demand movie streaming service Kanopy is now available for free at the Vermillion Public Library. Library card holders can access Kanopy and sign up to start streaming movies instantly by visiting Use your library card to sign in and create an account. Each library cardholder has 10 credits for movies, 2 credits for major courses, and unlimited games in Kanopy Kids per month. Movies can be streamed from any computer, TV, mobile device or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku.

Vermillion Medical Clinic Donates to Weekend Backpack Food Program

[Vermillion, S.D.] – Doctors and staff at Vermillion Medical Clinic presented the Vermillion Weekend Backpack Program with a check for $2,500.

The Weekend Backpack program is a non-profit organization run by Feeding Vermillion that provides nutritious meals and snacks to Vermillion students before each weekend of the school year. According to John Lushbough, director of Feeding Vermillion, “The program serves approximately 250 students each week, and that includes those using Tangager Takeout.” K-12 students from all Vermillion schools are eligible, including Head Start and St. Agnes. Feeding Vermillion also operates Tanager Takeout, a food pantry located at Vermillion High School and the Welcome Table which offers a hot, nutritious meal every Tuesday.

Doctors and staff at Vermillion Medical Clinic voted to award the donation to the Weekend Backpack program. Lushbough said of the donation: “It’s a godsend, it will help so many people.” The Weekend Backpack program and Tangager Takeout rely heavily on donations for their support. Lushbough said they are a United Way agency and they partner with Feeding South Dakota to buy food and supplies at great savings, there is also a lot of cooperation with the local food pantry.

Lushbough has run Feeding Vermillion since 2001 and said, “There are a lot of people in need and that [Backpack Program] is something we can do to help.

Sharing the Dream is a fair trade organization that works to reduce poverty in Guatemala through collaborative partnerships with Guatemalans. Their downtown store sells artisan Guatemalan products, and proceeds support projects in Guatemala, such as workshops with artisans, healthcare and meals for seniors, and a scholarship program for college-aged students. school.

Vermillion store volunteers provide customer service and assist with various store tasks tailored to their individual gifts. A few projects the volunteers have been involved in include designing displays, managing inventory, updating social media and the website, and translating letters into Spanish.
