If you are looking for a high resolution webcam, look no further than the Insta360 link.
Video output at 4K, 30fps is exemplary and represents a rarity in the webcam world. In testing, the video quality turned out to be particularly crisp. In terms of low-light performance, the Link performed well and put out a brighter tone than other webcams we tested. The only issue we found was that the Link tended to build up a lot of heat, even when not plugged in.
Its design resembles a DJI Pocket 2 cut in half, which is clever given that the Insta360 Link can move freely on its base to follow the movements of its user. As for assembly, it certainly comes in handy with a tripod thread adapter to connect to a stand, as well as a sturdy clip to place it on a monitor or laptop screen. As far as connectivity goes, this is handled through a single USB-C port.
This webcam is also loaded with features, with several different modes to provide a few different viewing angles. For example, Whiteboard Mode allows the webcam to zoom into content on a whiteboard for use with e-learning, while DeskView Mode provides a bird’s-eye view of a desk so that others can see all the documents you are working on. desk. In practice we’ve found it to point more towards our lap than the desk, but nonetheless the functionality is a handy option. Most striking though is the True Focus feature which can quickly shift the autofocus away from your face to any object in front of it.
The software is split into three clear sections – Gimbal Control, Image Settings and More Settings – and should be easy to use for pretty much anyone. In Gimbal Control, you can use a virtual joystick to move the link, while Image Settings lets you fine-tune settings like brightness, saturation, and more. The non-descript Plus settings are where the best options are, with toggles for HDR, gesture controls and webcam streamer mode.
